What is momentum?

The word momentum comes from the Latin word movere, which means to move.  In sports we are always moving – either physically in motion or using our brain activity to help us try to make decisions, anticipate upcoming plays, or problem solve given whatever we are facing.  This could be determining whether or not to swing a bat, when to make a move in a race, or whether or not to go for a steal.  Athletes go through frequent and often intense physical training in order to make sure that they are continuing to improve their skills. They gain momentum, which helps them execute more complex skills, make better more nuanced decisions, and solve more difficult problems.  This type of growth is critical to becoming the best athlete you can be.

Practicing mental skills, learning how to deal with failure, and adding tools to an athletes mental playbook is every bit as important as developing those physical skills.  Some might even say it is more important.  Momentum Coach & Athlete Development works with athletes to help them develop those mental skills, trains coaches to create a positive environment for athletes to develop physical and mental skills, and works in various other capacities supporting coaches and athletes in all sports for the purpose of maximizing the potential of athletes, promoting a positive and well-rounded experience for athletes, developing team cohesion, increasing athlete retention, and helping athletes achieve their individual and team goals.
